For Todays class the students were introduced to the fundamentals of the Unreal Engine. First, we opened the class with a lecture explaining what the Unreal Engine is, and how it is being implemented in all sorts of entertainment applications beyond games. (Such as using it to render a realtime background for film, as seen in the new Mandalorian Series) After that, we hit the ground running with an overview of the basics of moving assets around and duplicating objects. We then spent some time customizing the scene, explaining some of the basics of lighting a scene, as well as how to add fog/atmosphere to an enviorment. Finally, we took some time to go over the basics of writing out a node based shader graph, and taught the kids how to make a glowing material. They can choose the color and can apply to any object in their scene.
